The Pune Metro will submit a proposal to the union government for approval after securing the land. The PMC received the Pune Metro's request for land and forwarded it to the road department for their opinion. The Swargate to Katraj underground extension was approved by the union cabinet in September 2024, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone virtually. In August, the Pune Metro had requested land for three stations at Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj, but a fourth station was decided upon later, leading to the request for additional land at Balaji Nagar.
