Glimmer of hope for CR commuters!
Very confusing article, DC-AC conversion on KYN-TNA-LTT stretch may get completed on 30th if weather gods allow so (JUST HOPE)... :)
.
CR claims that life will become easier for commuters from the distant suburbs with all trains switching from DC to AC between Kurla and Kalyan from June 30
....
more... “The commissioner of railway safety will be conducting an inspection on June 21, 22 and 23 a finally test charge will be conducted on the night of 29 after which the Kurla to Kalyan will turn into AC traction,” said an official, who did not want to be named."
.
"Although the system will be helpful for the commuters many CR officials say that switching to AC is a big task in normal weather and almost impossible in the monsoon period.
A railway official on the condition of anonymity said, “I do not think that the monsoon deadline is a practical, the safety inspection have been delayed earlier too and it unlikely that they will happen in these weather conditions.”
.
“In order to run the train safely CR will have to raise the height of Matunga foot overbridge north end and Kasaiwada foot overbridge in the south end of Kurla which is to low to carry the AC traction,” Added the official.
The height required to run AC traction is 6.79 metres whereas only 4.265 m is currently available. The inspection therefore will prove to be vital, as it will be determining if running AC traction would be safe.
Escalator spoilt in the rains"
