Railway PSUs Face Delays in Overseas Projects Due to Regional Political Unrest

Political instability in Bangladesh and other geopolitical issues in Southeast Asia have slowed down several overseas projects undertaken by Indian railway PSUs, including RVNL and IRCON International. Projects in Maldives and Myanmar have also been impacted. Connectivity plans through Bangladesh have been slowed down or put on hold due to the...

political situation. The planned participation in railway tenders in Bangladesh, worth ₹2500 crore, has been postponed. RVNL's Harbour project in Maldives has also been significantly delayed, resulting in a revenue loss of nearly ₹300 crore. Ircon International has also faced setbacks in Myanmar and Bangladesh due to political turmoil. Funding for these projects, provided by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in the form of grants or Line of Credit (LoC), has been delayed, impacting the progress of the projects. Ircon's international order book is significantly smaller than its domestic order book, with a ratio of 9:91.

Bangladesh mein political turmoil aur dusre geo-political issues, khass kar South East Asia mein, ne Railway PSUs ke kam se kam teen overseas projects ko slow down kar diya hai, jismein RVNL aur IRCON International bhi shamil hain. Maldives aur Myanmar mein bhi projects affected hue hain, aur Bangladesh se...

North East ki connectivity plans ya to slow down hui hain ya phir hold pe hain. India ke eastern neighbour mein chal rahi turmoil ne North East connectivity plans ko impact kiya hai, jinka zyadatar part Bangladesh se hota hai. Is saal (June ke aaspaas) Railway Board ne Bangladesh, Nepal aur dusre alternative routes se North-East ki taraf jaane wala 1275.50 km ka Final Location Survey (FLS) approve kiya tha. Is survey mein, Bangladesh se connect hone wali new lines 500 km ki hogi, aur gauge conversion 367 km ka hoga. Nepal mein, 200 km se zyada new lines lay ki jaayengi, aur North East mein 212 km ki lines layi jaayengi. Bangladesh mein railway tenders mein participate karne ki plans bhi affected hui hain. RVNL officials ke mutaabiq, company ₹2500 crore ke tenders mein participate karne ki ummid kar rahi thi, jismein zyadatar LoC (line of credit) aur government grant projects shamil the, lekin ab yeh short term mein nahin ho paayega. Maldives mein, RVNL ko ongoing Harbour project se karib ₹300 crore ka revenue hit hua hai. 2022 mein, Navratna company ko Maldives mein UTF (Uthuru Thila Falhu-Island) Harbour project ke liye project implementation agency banaya gaya tha. Project, ₹1,544.60 crore ki cost pe, 24 months mein complete hona tha. Ircon International ne bhi confirm kiya hai ki Myanmar (Bangladesh ke alawa) mein unke overseas projects mein “drawbacks” hue hain. Government of India se aane wala funding, jo MEA dwara grant ya LoC ke form mein projects ko diya jaata hai, “wait-and-watch” ki position mein hai. Ircon ka domestic to international order-book ratio 91:9 hai.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
