This project aims to reduce Algeria's reliance on oil and gas industries, which contribute significantly to its GDP and exports. China, heavily reliant on iron ore imports from Australia and Brazil, sees this project as strategically important to secure its steel production, especially given its strained relations with Australia. This project further strengthens the relationship between China and Algeria, who have a long history of cooperation, including the construction of 6,000km of railways in Algeria.
