the tenure of Ram Vilas Paswan as Railway Minister in the H.D. Deve Gowda government. However, the project did not proceed beyond the survey stage. During the Manmohan Singh government, Lalu Prasad Yadav, as Railway Minister, proposed a revised route via Bhagwanpur and Mahua. While a survey was conducted and a report submitted, the project again failed to materialize. In the 2023 budget, under the current Narendra Modi government, a third survey was approved for the line. This time, the survey was approved for the Bhagwanpur-Samastipur route via Mahua and Tajpur, following the efforts of Pawan Kumar Paras, the MP from Hajipur and former Union Food Processing Minister, who requested the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister to prioritize this project. The new line, if constructed, will reduce the travel distance between Hajipur and Samastipur from 105 km to 57 km, providing a more convenient and economical transportation option for the residents of Mahua, Tajpur, and the surrounding areas.
