Hubballi Ankola Railway line is a long pending demand. IR had already prepared a proposal for that line. Many people are opposing the construction because it passes through the forest areas. There are many PILs in the court challenging this project. In short, this line is only on paper and there is no visible progress.

It shouldn't be done because not required already there are routes to coastal one via Hassan, Sakleshpura to Mangaluru and another via Hubballi, Londa to Madgaon, this will have adverse effect on karnataka rainfall
