The USBRL project, which aims to connect the Kashmir Valley with the Jammu region and the national rail network, covers 272 kilometers. The newly commissioned Banihal-Sangaldan section, constructed at a cost of Rs 15,863 crore, features 16 bridges, 11 tunnels, and numerous safety features, including ballastless tracks, canted turnouts, CCTV monitoring, and tunnel safety technology. The Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section of the USBRL project, spanning 185.66 kilometers, is fully electrified and can accommodate Vande Bharat trains.
