Railway Board’s nod awaited for doubling 46-km Thuravoor-Ambalappuzha rail track

The completion of track doubling in the Ernakulam-Ambalappuzha rail corridor, a vital project for Kerala, faces delays due to the Railway Board's decision to hold back sanction for doubling the Thuravoor-Ambalappuzha section. This decision is based on the perceived 'low rate of return' from the corridor, with the expectation that container...

movement from the Vizhinjam port will increase the profitability in the future. The Railway Board prioritizes project viability, and the completion of the entire Ernakulam-Ambalappuzha corridor, including the Vallathol Nagar-Shoranur triangle, is essential for the overall track doubling plan in Kerala. The delays in track doubling are attributed to the single-track corridors, steep curves, and numerous halts, which hinder train speed.Land acquisition for the Ernakulam-Ambalappuzha corridor is expected to be completed in a year, followed by a two-year construction period involving bridge building. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹1,262 crore, was expected to be approved by December but remains uncertain. The completion of track doubling is anticipated to significantly reduce travel times for express and commuter trains and facilitate efficient cargo transport from Vizhinjam port to Kochi port.

Kerala mein track doubling ka kaam aage badhna mushkil ho raha hai. Ernakulam-Ambalappuzha rail corridor ka track doubling complete karne ka deadline 2026 ka end tha, lekin Thuravoor-Ambalappuzha track doubling ka sanction abhi tak nahin mila. Railway Board keh raha hai ki is section se unhe 'low-rate of return' milega, aur...

jab tak Vizhinjam port se container movement start nahin hota, tab tak yeh project profit nahin dega. Railway Board projects ki viability pe focus karta hai, aur pura Ernakulam-Ambalappuzha corridor, jisme Vallathol Nagar-Shoranur triangle bhi shamil hai, complete hone se hi Kerala mein track doubling ka kaam samay par ho paayega. Track doubling mein delay ki wajah hai single-track corridors, steep curves aur station pe bar bar rukna, jisse trains ki speed kam hoti hai.Ernakulam-Ambalappuzha corridor ki land acquisition ek saal mein complete ho jaayegi, agar state government samay par land de de. Uske baad track doubling mein do saal lagenge, kyunki kai bridges bhi banane padenge. Project ki estimated cost ₹1,262 crore hai, aur December tak approval milna tha, lekin abhi bhi uncertainty hai. Track doubling complete hone se express and commuter trains ka travel time kam ho jaayega, aur Vizhinjam port se Kochi port tak cargo bhi easily aayega.
