Setback for Namma metro's Pink Line, TBM Tunga stopped due to sinkhole

Bengaluru's Pink Line Namma Metro faced a setback on Thursday when a sinkhole appeared above the tunnelling section in KG Halli. This forced the shutdown of TBM Tunga, a German-made Herrenknecht EPB machine (S839B), which was in its final drive, tunneling a 938-metre stretch from KG Halli to Nagavara. This...

is the third sinkhole on the Pink Line since 2023, with previous incidents occurring on Brigade Road and in Pottery Town. The sinkhole, likely caused by an air pocket or loose soil, resulted from the pressure or vibrations of the TBM. BMRCL authorities backfilled the sinkhole with concrete but had to reopen it to repair old water/sewerage pipelines damaged in the process. The road will remain partially closed to traffic while repairs are ongoing. The terrain between KG Halli and Nagavara is proving challenging for both machines, with soil, rock, and sand hindering progress. TBM Tunga is expected to emerge at Nagavara on October 30, and Bhadra on November 30. As of Thursday, Tunga had bored 469 metres out of 938 metres, while Bhadra had bored 310.8 metres out of 939 metres.

Bengaluru mein Namma Metro ke Pink Line ko ek setback aaya hai, jab KG Halli mein tunnelling section ke upar ek sinkhole aa gaya. Isse TBM Tunga ko rokna pada, jo ki ek German-made Herrenknecht EPB machine (S839B) hai aur apna final drive kar rahi thi. Ye machine KG Halli se...

Nagavara tak 938-metre stretch tunnel kar rahi thi. Ye 2023 ke baad Pink Line par aaya teesra sinkhole hai. Pehle Brigade Road aur Pottery Town mein bhi aise sinkhole aaye the. Road traffic ke liye partially band rahega jab tak repair chal rahi hai. KG Halli aur Nagavara ke beech ka terrain dono machines ke liye mushkil saabit ho raha hai, jahan pe soil, rock, aur sand ka mix hai.
