You missed a lot of fun, Tapan. From downright vilifying VBs a few days ago, people have started wars over whose route is more deserving for a VB. How fast the night changes.

In the blind race of PR, government has forgotten that we're not yet a 'developed' country. And being a country with diverse demographics, the need for trains is diverse, too. But as the saying goes, यथा राजा तथा प्रजा, even people have forgotten their route's actual needs and started to fight over who needs more VBs.
...

While the Kanpur Shatabdi was top earner of NCR, it wasn't setting occupancy charts on fire in off seasons even back then. With a parade of VBs between Kanpur and Delhi, it's occupancy has dwindled further. But it has a different role to play. This Shatabdi along with Lucknow Swarn Shatabdi cater to the intermediate stations, mainly Etawah and Ghaziabad.

You've to see the crowds during the arrival of this Shatabdi at these stations, it's almost similar to that of Gomati's. So yeah, while I think that the original post may not have been ill-intended, suggesting a train should be permanent canceled based just on vacant seats from the source station is not a brilliant idea per se. Let the passengers have the choice, everything has a different purpose.

I've been traveling in VB since it's inception half a decade ago, and even I'm intrigued by the VB 2.0 rake, saffron rake, 20C rake, 8C rake. So it's not a far fetched idea that new travelers will be excited just to experience this new tech. And just because we can manufacture trainsets now, it's not at all necessary that we phase out everything that's not a trainset.

So a new day starts with another derailment. Another day of lost lives for no apparent reason. Seems like the government doesn't care a bit about people's lives. Incompetence at its peak. A new accident every second day, it is crucial to mention that most of the zones are delaying trains in the name of maintenance. Gods know what maintenance they're doing.

Be it a train moving at 130kmph or 70kmph or even a stationary train, nothing is safe nowadays. People booking a train are not even sure if they'll safely reach

their destination. Where is the RM? He forgot to do his usual on-camera drama after the Gonda accident. I doubt he'll bother even saying anything about the incident, let alone take any responsibility.

Mission Raftar on papers with massive slowdowns and undue extensions. ZBTT, with a plethora of political halts, even Rajdhanis, aren't spared. Shabbily maintained coaches and unpalatable food on premium trains. Long hours of delays and a string of accidents. The 'Amrit Kaal' of Indian Railways.

Our government doesn't care about human lives, that's evident. But they care about the capital gains, evident by their love of freight trains and the recent tax terrorism. These accidents damage multiple rakes, what about all the money going down the drain. No one seems to answer. RM won't take responsibility, the government as a whole will deny it's responsibility to it's citizens.

This will keep happening because we, as the citizens, have no conscience left. On a forum related to railways, people keep defending their masters with whatever means they find. Instead of asking the right questions, they keep calling it as conspiracy. Some great people even start asking what happened in the last 67 years. Until people will speak the language of politicians and be their puppets, this will continue.

And everyone will be happy with the third worldly services and no security of life, because 'Bharat me sab chalta hai'. The golden period of Indian Railways.

As a person with Socialist views and a deep engagement with Marxist thought and Communist theory, I am fundamentally opposed to Capitalism and Privatization.

I have expressed this sentiment before and reiterate it now: it is morally wrong for a poor child to have to travel in General class while a wealthy child travels in 2AC, simply because one happens to be born into a family with a lower socio-economic status. This situation is akin to the racial segregation experienced in the United States under the Jim Crow laws, where African Americans

were denied the same opportunities and comforts as White Americans solely due to their race.

Nonetheless, I recognize that capitalism is a prevailing reality that cannot be ignored. However, I expect the government to at least meet basic needs for the poor and working class. Increasing the availability of General class accommodations is a reasonable request. It is baffling that this simple expectation is not being met.

As for the development of infrastructure like the Bullet Train, I believe it is essential for India's progress and modernization. However, before investing in such projects, we must prioritize making our existing transportation system safer for all passengers. The focus should be on the well-being of people (we're talking about FAMILIES) not solely on financial considerations.

Kuchh chezon par mai dhyaan lana chahta hun, Causes of derailment.
1) Packing of tracks...Without proper packing trains ate running at 130kmph in some sections like pnbe-ddu...i am a electrical engineer by degree and technisian in railway signal department as profession. Mai koi baklol aadmi nahi hun..besak mai signal me hun par railway ke sabhi department ki achhi khassi jankari rakhta hun..
Train heavely shakes in up line between ara-bxr ..i was travelling from 13201 in newly build 3ac coach..Coach shakes heavily, i was unable to sleep even i like sleeping in trains...2,3
...
times jerk near Twininganj is so bad that i was thrown off my side lower seat..i know very well the difference between jerk and floating of coaches.. floating do not cause derailment but jerk can...i bet sone serious accident is waiting in pnbe-ddu if packing not done.
2) Bad bogies of freight trains especially boxn..i always watch the bogies and axles of freights carefully when it passes from me..i have seen heavily shaking axles irrespective of calm bogies...there is horizontal motion between bogie and axles, which should not be there...vertical motion is ok but not horizontal... horizontal motion represent faulty or heavily worn roller bearings...approx 20 out of 60 coaches in every boxn freight are bad, that is only surving due to wheel flange and good tracks or who knows that god is protecting...i have even seen parallel race of freight with my 13202 for about 10km...looked every faulty axles, thats insane...it can derail someday somwhere.
3) Irresponsible Officers...as we know railway is facing super lack of staff..Staffs are there in every department but numbers are only sufficient to do maintenance only nothing else..you expect them to do special work 3 days a week and think that it has no any effect on maintenance then you have no brain...these days are so hot, that you cannot work for 3,4 hours continuously in sun..you think that they will cut grass in station or block section and after 4 hours they will do maintenance of tracks, then you are wrong...we are not machines....these days i have seen 50's of group D staffs are busy in cutting grass daily..due to huge moist environment, grass came back again in 7-10 days...then again they start cutting. Instead of this you should have provided herbicide and spray machine and depute only 3,4 staff...they will do work of 50 people easily...grass will not come back again for 30 days minimum.
4) work load and duty period....Simple human are not machines... machine can even fail after proper maintenance then human can also fail...sone human failure led to disaster like SPAD.

Meter Gauge Chronicles. A journey in one of the last remaining mainline MG routes.

1. BRK-MLN MG Express being shunted on PF-1 of Bahraich. Meanwhile GD-BRK DEMU in background in background preparing for it's return journey.

Machine, man and nature. Our train departing from the laidback settings of Manjhara Poorab.

3. Daily life and the daily commuters of the train. Most of the travellers boarded to reach their daily jobs in Risiya. Teachers, shopkeepers, nurses, policeman, peons, everyone on the train seemed to know each other.

4. A curious child looking out of the window. He kept asking his father about everything he saw. That's how I became a railfan, too.

5. Lines meeting and going deep into the Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary.

6, 7. Traversing through the Dudhwa national park.

8. Approaching the mighty Sharda barrage. It was quite scary sitting on the gate and recording while the river churned below.

9. A semaphore signal and a railway employee returning after setting the signal to Stop.

10. That one's obvious. The little devil snatched my samosa and hid below the train.

11. Our pairing train going back to Bahraich, running back into the Katarniaghat sanctuary after emerging from Dudhwa.

12. A busy Nanpara Junction bustling with activity. Train halted here for almost an hour. You can go out and buy things to eat. Or you can buy bread-pakoras or samosas being freshly made on the PF. The huge old tree gives the feels of old times and may remind you of Malgudi Days.

13. The said bread-pakora. Along with the samosa it was quite delicious, although a bit oily to my liking.

14. A IZN YDM-4 stands tall at it's base, Mailani.

15. The MG yard of Mailani. You can spot a wide variety of YDM-4s, GS and Vistadome tourist coaches here. Along with a few freight vans and brake vans.

16. Located a few meters away from the station, beyond the yard is the loco maintenance shed of Mailani, most probably managed by IZN.

17. Mailani yard with all the MG coaches and locos with the coaching depot visible in the background.

18. Where MG meets electrified BG. BRK-MLN MG Express on PF-3 while my next connecting train MLN-GKP Express standing on PF-1.

I did this journey on 31/06/2022. And except LKO-GD, the entire LKO-MLN-LJN journey was on a station bought general ticket. The train was clean, washrooms were clean and were fully functional. Although same can't be said for the electrical elements.

I was also quite surprised that people boarding the train from the stations mid-jungle, too traveled with valid tickets. They were helpful and interacting with them, learning about their slow lives in remote areas was an experience in itself.

Kumud.

In the blind race of namesake development, it's traditions that are sacrificed. In the era of high-speed 65kmph Vande Bharats, how could MG survive.

Like this line, many others were lifeline of their regions. Then came BG concept, and now the routes are dominated by freights with passengers nowhere to be seen.

we continue by this pace and this strategy, I don't know if we'll be able to compete with Europe in rail terms, but I'm pretty sure we'll become next US railways.
